Speaking of Harry Potter, I had a very lovely conversation with Bonnie Wright, the terribly talented daughter of Gary and Sheila who are the founders of Dover Street goldsmiths and fine jeweller Wright & Teague. Bonnie plays Ginny Weasley in the Potter franchise and is thus a superstar. I was invited to W&T on the evening when Vogue jewellery editor Carol Woolton unveiled a fabulous event called Vogue Street Lights: inviting design students to curate the fine jewellers’ windows on and around Bond Street…..
Anyway, back to Miss Wright. I’ve seen her at her parents’ events before and she is totally untouched by the fame monster: courteous, unassuming and absolutely gorgeous without a scrap of make-up on. I’ve rarely had as intelligent a conversation at a London cocktail party in twenty years. We chatted about A.S. Byatt, Mapp & Lucia, Derek Jarman and the business of making and publicising films. I can’t bear it when people feign ignorance or indifference when a screen actor is in the room…particularly with one as bright and beautiful as Mis Wright. She doesn’t need Gypsy Sherwood to look into her crystal ball to foresee an impressive future.
